Our Caring Committee encourages and nurtures a compassionate community where we support each other during difficult times and celebrate joyous occasions together.

The purpose of Temple Adas Shalom's Caring Committee is to reach out to members of the TAS community in times of joy and in times of need. We believe that this is what it means to be part of a caring Jewish congregation and community. We want to offer our friendship, comfort and companionship especially at times when it is most needed.

The Caring Community provides acts of loving kindness (Gemilut chasidim) to our congregation.

Birth, Wedding, or Graduation?

Perhaps you have a Birth, Wedding, or Graduation you would like to share? We want to celebrate with you and your family. We can put a notice in upcoming Newsletter so that our member community can share in your celebrations and our Caring Committee will send a notice of congratulations to the member family.

You can call the office at 410-939-3170 or send an e-mail to caring@templeadasshalom.org.

Each year, we celebrate our temple graduates in our July Newsletter. If your son or daughter is graduating from High School or College this year, please send an e-mail to admin@templeadasshalom.org so that we may share in their accomplishments together.

Illness or Hospitalization?

Do you know a congregant that is sick or in the hospital? Hospitals no longer notify clergy of their congregants’ admission as patients, due to privacy laws, so we are completely dependent upon you to contact us and let us know the names of loved ones who are ill or in the hospital. Rabbi Simerly can visit all of the local hospitals, nursing facilities, as well as personal residences.

We want to remember them in our prayers. Names of your loved ones can be placed on the MiSheberach List at your request, so that we can include them in our prayers for healing. Please let us know if we can help in any way.

You can call the office at 410-939-3170 or send an e-mail to caring@templeadasshalom.org

Loss of a Loved One?

We are so sorry for your loss, know that we are here for you. Rabbi Simerly and the Temple office will assist you and coordinate the details for announcing the passing to the congregation. If you would like for Rabbi Simerly to officiate at the funeral, it is important to coordinate with her before any arrangements are finalized. Please email her at rabbi@templeadasshalom.org.

Even if Temple will not be involved in the funeral service, the Caring Committee and Temple staff will provide support to the bereaved family. The Caring Committee will offer to deliver a local shiva tray or plant a tree in Israel in memory of your loved one. Caring will also send notes of condolence to members who have suffered the loss of a loved one.

The office can add the names of your loved ones to your Yahrzeit list should you desire to receive a Yahrzeit Notice in future years and help arrange the purchase of a Memorial Plaque in memory of your loved one.

We know this time can be stressful and we would like to help where we can. Call the office at 410-939-3170 or send an e-mail to caring@templeadasshalom.org.

Interested in Volunteering With Our Caring Committee?

“Caring Community” is a term we use for the many aspects of congregational life that involves being present for each other through our lives. In times of joy and celebration, and in times of sadness, illness or mourning, Temple Adas Shalom strives to be present. While our Rabbi, our Caring Chairs, and professional staff are key to much of our Caring Community programs, as providers and facilitators, the very best expression of Caring Community is when our members are present for other members. Reaching out to others is a mitzvah and honor.

Would you like to volunteer to assist with helping and caring for members of your fellow community?  If you are interested in participating on this committee, please e-mail us at caring@templeadasshalom.org.
